EDM and Clean Cut Technology
At Sheenspark we are specialist EDM suppliers to the Aerospace Industry. Sheen Spark offer:-
• Fast response to all enquiries • Quality assured work • Competitive prices • Adherence to delivery schedules Nadcap approved for EDM, also by major Aerospace Companies including Rolls-Royce, Goodrich, MTU, Honeywell and Hamilton Sundstrand. We have experience in the EDM of a wide range of Aerospace materials and can cater for a wide range of batch sizes.
Our range of Spark Erosion Machines include a Charmilles 440 equipped with Clean Cut Technology to minimise the recast layer.
Following the installation of a Charmilles Robofil EDM Wire machine with ‘Clean Cut’ technology, Sheen Spark can provide a service which can cut components and tooling with a surface finish of less than 3 microns and an imperceptible EDM recast layer.
Recast layer can be a problem on some components and it has to be removed to eliminate the possibility of stress cracking. We have submitted test pieces to an approved laboratory and the report shows no degradation of the EDM surface and no recast layer was observed.
This is achieved through using the Clean Cut generator and multiple cuts. These are a Roughing cut, Finishing cut, precision cut, where the generator constantly switches from Negative to Positive and back to Negative, to achieve a very fine surface finish with a minimum of recast layer.
The final 2 cuts are at very high speed, again constantly switching polarity, which leaves no measurable recast layer. By using this technique it is also possible to cut Titanium without oxidisation (blueing). We would be pleased to provide further information of this technology and discuss any requirements you may have for this innovation in EDM. We could provide sample cuts of your components or tools, which would benefit from this.
